This post is intended to be a mini King of Pentacles Tarot Guide. It is important to mention that the longer you work with the cards the more you will discover how they speak to you. For example, the King of Pentacles does have a theme and traditional meaning but I recommend leaving “space” for the card to speak to you. Over time, you may discover that the card represents unique insights or themes for you personally.

Suit of Pentacles Summary

King of Pentacles Tarot – Upright Meaning

  • As a person
    • Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
    • Fire + Earth
    • The King of Pentacles is a mature man who has common sense and exceptional self-control. He is a businessman who knows how to create and grow wealth. He is practical, grounded and he is a provider for his family.  He does everything he will to make sure people are ok even if it requires doing a hard thing. He may be quick to pass judgment and have a fixation on material wealth and being accomplished. He has mastered all things related to the physical plane a long time ago.
  • Figurative meaning
    • The King of Pentacles suggests that the querent is doing a good job of managing their wealth and investments. It can also indicate that now is a good time to invest and engage in financial planning activities such as developing a retirement or investment strategy.

Multiple Kings showing up in a reading

  • Two Kings appearing in a reading for a male querent could indicate 1:1 competition with another male. Two Kings in a reading for a female querent can represent male colleagues or a professional meeting.
  • Two Kings appearing in a reading about career can indicate a potentially significant advancement or promotion for the querent as a result of a professional conference or meeting. If the querent is male, two Kings might indicate that the querent has competition for a promotion in the workplace.
  • Three Kings in a reading represent a group of men or a brotherhood. It can also indicate that nepotism is present in the current situation.
  • Four Kings can represent a dominant male authority or themes related to masculine energy.

Shadow Side of the King of Pentacles

  • As a person
    • The King of Pentacles reversed represents a person in the querent’s life who is prone to corruption and has a knack for making people around them feel insecure and unworthy. This is a bully who lacks empathy. He is greedy for wealth and material possessions and he may go after them in unhealthy ways.
    • This card can also represent an authoritative older man who the querent is financially dependent on. This could represent a father, grandfather, uncle, boss etc that the querent is in a negative relationship with.
  • Figurative meaning
    • The querent is struggling with a lack mentality or is being very frugal with money and finances.  They may also desire wealth and success on the material plane but they are unwilling to do the work to make that happen. There may be a need to learn how to be generous and graceful.
