Six of Swords

This post is intended to be a mini Six of Swords Tarot Guide. It is important to mention that the longer you work with the cards the more you will discover how they speak to you. For example, the Six of Swords does have a theme and traditional meaning but I recommend leaving “space” for the card to speak to you. Over time, you may discover that the card represents unique insights or themes for you personally.

Six of Swords Tarot – Upright Meaning

  • Six of Swords upright often refers to a  journey – specifically moving from a bad situation to better circumstances. It can also mean that it is a good time to travel in general. If this card comes up, start making travel plans.
  • A new beginning. The end of a tough situation brings movement toward the sun. It is time to leave a difficult situation behind. The querent has been through the worst and is now getting out.
  • If the querent is making a decision this card can represent they are making a good decision even though card may look depressing. It’s about movement coming out of challenging times / choppy waters.
  • This is also a card of science and mental perfection in some way. The power of the rational mind over irrational thoughts. Perfectly understanding a subject in a way that implies mental healing and understanding. Logic and reason are at their pinnacle here.

Shadow Side of the Six of Swords

  • Travel plans have to be postponed or there will be delays in travel.
  • Feeling stuck in a particular situation or in a specific geographical location that has caused loss, pain or discomfort. The querent desperately wants to move away from the situation but there are external circumstances standing in their way. Now is not the right time to leave. Instead, work on confronting the regret and resolve it.
  • Are you leaving a situation because you want to get away with something? Is there a need to take responsibility for your actions on your way out?
  • Leaving a situation but there is a heavy price.  The querent is leaving a situation with regret and pain.
