The Ego is a motor center that fuels the drive to pursue what you want, make commitments, and create tangible results. The gates within this center represent different expressions of determination, ambition, and self-worth, shaping how you use willpower and engage with the material world.

  • The Ego Energy Center is the small triangle-shaped energy center located on the right side of the bodygraph chart. 
  • This center is also called the “Heart Center” because it is about a “heart-pull” and the motivation to pursue what we want. “I want this thing, and this is how I am going to get it. There is an aspect of control.
  • It is also about willpower, making commitments, self-worth, and recognizing our own value, especially in the material plane.
  • This center is also about fame and being seen or recognized on some level. 
  • The Ego Center is not an awareness center (no intuitive messages) – it just creates energy.

what are the gates in human design?

  • The Gates in a Human Design body graph represent the gifts, talents, motivations, energetics, or drives that are consistently available to us. If you DO NOT have a gate activated or colored, it doesn’t mean you never have access to that energy. It just means it’s not a reliable or constant source of energy in your life.
  • Everyone has the potential for 26 individual gates to be activated in their bodygraph chart; however, if you look closely, you may find that some gates appear multiple times in the two columns on either side of the chart. This is a common occurrence.
  • There are 64 Gates in a bodygraph chart, and each gate has a theme that is related to the 64 I Ching hexagrams. If you would like a deeper understanding of the gates, I highly recommend deep diving into the Chinese I Ching hexagrams.
  • Lastly, it is worth noting that there are MANY layers to all aspects of the chart, including the gates. This article is intended to be a high-level summary.

  • Traditional Name – Gate of the Hunter / Huntress
  • Theme – They have an instinct for how to control resources.
  • High Expression – They can support the abundance and wise use of resources to the benefit of the family/tribe/business through their dependable skills and care.
  • Low Expression – Struggling with a lack mentality and/or being a control freak.

  • Theme – They know the right way to say things.
  • High Expression – This person may be good at sales because they know how to talk to different people to get a message across to each.
  • Low Expression – If their ego is power hungry, this person may exert their influence to reach their own goals

  • Traditional Name – Gate of Egoist
  • Theme – Giving to others and contributing to the tribe/family.
  • High Expression – This individual is here to be a hard worker who derives satisfaction from delivering on their promises and contributing through their efforts.
  • Low Expression – They may experience burnout, and giving can be codependent – “if I give people will like me”.

  • Theme – A need to make an impact
  • High Expression – This individual is here to help others transform their perspective by initiating (or shocking) them out of their normal point of view into seeing a bigger picture.
  • Low Expression – They may be overly competitive and measure self-worth by comparing themselves to others.
